Growing Students' Interest in Writing

Students become lazy to take notes in class and make it difficult to learn it again after school. Especially in the current technological era that can make students' writing motivation decrease. They are more interested in operating gadgets and looking for sources of knowledge from the internet. There are seven ways you can try to foster student interest in writing. Here are the tips!

1. Start by growing the habit of reading to students

This is one of the most important things that can be done to encourage students to be more fond of writing and able to write well. A person who is diligent in reading will certainly become familiar with writing techniques and writing styles that match his personality. Students can also explore various types of writing more. The more children read, the more diction and language they will develop.

2. Don't limit student imagination

When students are interested in writing, don't limit the theme of the writing they want to make. Let their imagination develop to then be channeled into writing. Whether it's about their favorite superhero, their ideals, or maybe something else. Limiting student imagination will hamper their freedom to develop abilities or creativity in writing. By writing things they like, it can be the beginning of a better writing work.

3. Facilitate students with writing media

You can also provide communication media for students as well as a means of publicizing the results of their writing. One of them can be a magazine, or even just a board in a class with a different theme each month. This media can be a place for students to distribute written works and become an actualization forum for them. If used properly, media like this can foster students' interest in writing. You can also use technology such as blogs as a place to write for students.

4. Appreciate and support the results of student writing

In every writing that students make, of course there are always things that you can praise. Although there are still things that are less than perfect, respect their efforts because they want to try and devote their abilities to their writing. Assess the process and don't judge the results. Good or bad results from student writing must be respected by giving praise. Do this so that students remain motivated and learn to produce better writings later.

5. There is no need to teach too much grammar when students just start writing

Good and correct grammar is developing and will be mastered by children little by little. Don't teach too much complicated grammar when a child has just started learning to write. Remember that children will naturally learn to write in the language they usually read, just like learning to speak from the language they hear. So, reading is important for students so they can write in good grammar.

6. Take advantage of technology

Nowadays, most students would love to play with gadgets. Well, this can be used by Mr. / Mrs. Teacher to be something positive, because playing gadgets does not always have a negative impact on students. Give positive input so that they can take advantage of the habit of playing gadgets to learn to write. Lots of social media like google +, facebook notes, or blog platforms such as wordpress and blogspot that can be easily accessed through gadgets. If developed, the habit of writing on social media can also bring in money, you know.

7. Don't demand students to write perfectly

When students have just learned and practiced writing good writing, don't demand that they give perfect writing. When children feel that their writing is demanded to be perfect, then this might get rid of creativity or even great paralysis for them in writing.
